2015-2016 Saxophone Studio



 

 

Hayden Anderson (Tulsa, OK) is pursuing a Bachelor's in Music Education. He is currently a sophomore who is excited to be returning to a fantastic studio. He enjoys playing all kinds of literature from classical to jazz. He is currently tenor saxophonist in Chrono Quartet, alto saxophonist in the Hybrid Quartet, tenor sax in Supersax, and tenor player in Jazz Ensemble II. He also enjoys hanging with friends and playing almost any sport. After completing his undergrad he hopes to continue his education and pursue graduate studies.

 

Damian Cheek is a first-year graduate teaching assistant at Oklahoma State University. He graduated magna cum laude with a B.M. in Music Education from Tennessee Technological University in May 2014 under the instruction of Phil Barham. During his time at Tennessee Technological University, he performed in many ensembles including the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Marching Band. Damian was also a member of the XY Saxophone Quartet. The XY Quartet received first place at state-level MTNA competitions in 2012 and 2013, and placed Alternate in the Southern Division of MTNA in 2014.

Damian is a member of the National Association for Music Education, and is an alumnus of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity.





Terrance Hockless is currently a junior Music Education major from Forney, Texas. Terrance plays in the Cowboy Marching Band, The Symphonic Band, and several other ensembles encompassing both jazz and classical saxophone. He enjoys a wide variety of music, and is always open to experiencing new things. After completing his Bachelor's degree, Hockless plans to teach for a while, and then earn a graduate degree at a later date.

Prior to attending Oklahoma State, Terrance studied with Dr. Daniel Loudenback, Dr. Richard Smiley, and Ron Davis on saxophone. In addition to this, he received instruction from Mack Wood, Michelle Ross, and Jim Gist, and Carl Day as a member of both the North Forney High School Wind Ensemble and Marching Band.

 

Norleesa Humphrey is a junior from Owasso, Oklahoma perusing a Bachelor of Music Education. She is an active member of the Cowboy Marching Band has been involved with both Jazz and Classical ensembles.  During her time at Oklahoma State University she has become the treasurer for the Alpha chapter of Tau Beta Sigma.  After graduating Norleesa plans on perusing a graduate degree in Conducting.


Syndey Pointer (Wagoner, OK) is a junior saxophone major pursuing a Bachelor's in Music Education. She is a member of the Cowboy Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Jazz Combo. Sydney is very interested in both jazz and classical styles. She is a member of the Alpha chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, the National Honorary Band Sorority.

 

Kobe Reeves is a senior at Stillwater High School where he serves as drum major for the marching band. He is a regular member of the All-Region and All-State bands, and he consistently receives Superior ratings at both district and state solo and ensemble contests. Kobe was a 2014 North American Saxophone Alliance High School Solo Competition finalist. Kobe plans to become a full-time student at Oklahoma State University in the fall of 2015.


Aaron Singleton is from Richardson, Texas and is currently a senior pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. Aaron was fortunate enough play tenor sax in the featured ensemble at the Midwest Clinic last December in Chicago which is where he made his decision to pursue a career in music.  He is also a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. As well as saxophone, Aaron loves to play soccer and many other inter-mural sports.

 

Eric Stults is from Moore, Oklahoma. Eric has studied, been in masterclasses, and taken lessons with many great saxophonists including Jeffery Loeffert, Brian Gorrell, Heath Jones, Shain Baldwin, Richard Rath, Keith Talley, Eric Walshap, Brandon Brady, Chris Wiser, and Drew Whiting. Eric is in the OSU wind ensemble, OSU Jazz ensemble 1 and The Czkakwa Saxophone Quartet. Other than practicing his saxophone, Eric enjoys listening to everything from a Handel sonata to the funkiest, loudest jazz chart you can think of. Eric also enjoys talking smack, walking on the beach, and being jealous of Curren Myers hipsterness.


Andrew Twiss is a senior from Tulsa, Oklahoma pursuing a Bachelor's of Music Education. He is extremely interested in jazz and how the saxophone applies to it. Andrew wants to pursue graduate studies concentrated around jazz. He plans on becoming a music educator and professional jazz musician.

A proponent of chamber music, Andrew has been very active in various OSU chamber ensembles including Chrono quartet, Admeta Quartet, the OSU saxophone ensemble, the OSU Jazz Combos, and the OSU Super Sax ensemble. Andrew has received multiple honors and awards in the chamber music area including advancing to the National Final Round of the 2013 MTNA Chamber Music Competition in Anaheim, California.

During his time at Oklahoma State University Andrew has been a Drum Major and section leader of the Cowboy Marching Band, a member of the OSU Symphonic Band, OSU Concert Band, OSU Super Sax, and the OSU Jazz Combos and Big Bands. In 2014, he was awarded the Distinguished Leader Award at the Cowboy Marching Band Leadership Camp.

Andrew takes every opportunity to help in studio outreach efforts to help young students become interested and excited about music. He has played with the Admeta Quartet in local high schools around Stillwater to offer students new music they have never been exposed to before.

Andrew has experience teaching private lessons to beginning saxophone students. He has also twice served as a teaching assistant and quartet coach at the OSU Woodwind Institute.

Andrew is currently a member of the National Association for Music Educators, the North American Saxophone Alliance, as well as the Texas Music Educator's Association.

Andrew is an active member of the Alpha chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, the National Honorary Band Fraternity.

 

Kiedran Upshaw is a former student of Dr.Nathan Nabb (Professor of Saxophone at Stephen F.Austin) from Kilgore,Texas. He is currently a sophomore pursuing his Bachelors degree in music education. He is well versed in classical music but is looking forward to branching out in jazz. Kiedran plans on becoming a professional educator and performer.


Köln Wright is from Cushing, Oklahoma. His favorite food is noodles, especially on Thanksgiving.
